One of my biggest problems with being in Psychology is the research -- I can do some research, but my attention span is not long enough to really get much out of looking at a review of the literature or anything of that sort. I have to push myself pretty hard to even just concentrate on what I'm reading.
I think one of the reasons for this is how I look at the matter of research.
I see research to be the same as people-watching: looking over what is available and out there to be seen, and possibly making a note or two. MY problem comes in when I have to analyze the material. I don't really analyze when I people-watch. I just watch and wonder, and maybe come to a realization or just notice something interesting. With research, however, you're trying to take apart every aspect of what you find and come with a specific piece of information or a conclusion, and so have to train yourself to look for the information this way. This is a problem. It mixes two parts of my brain that don't work together.
I have one part of my brain that observes and enjoys information from afar, and might take a few mental notes to peruse later.
Then I have my problem solving brain that takes in a situation, finds the problem, figures out how the problem will be solved, then proceeds to solve it while I'm interacting with the problem. It is the most efficient side of me, I believe, and the most innovative.
These two sides of my brain only ever collide when I am required to do research. Otherwise, they are healthily on two opposite sides of myself.

Catch Up
It's almost been a full year since I last wrote in my blog. Since then, my writing has gotten worse. Funny how you use it or lose it with so many things as you get older.
Where I am right now in life:
Well these bullet points have turned into paragraphs, so I guess it's time to say adieu.
Over and out -- LP
Where I am right now in life:
- I've been to China (Beijing and Shanghai; Shanghai is the favorite)
- I am about to graduate college in 3 months
- Finding more about what I need in a life-partner (funny how these things happen when you're not dating)
- I have found a passion in personal organizing. I would love to turn it into a profession, but know nothing about making a business and I can't afford nor want to go back to school to get an MBA just yet.
- I have almost been forced into finding my balance between loving and having to let those I love go. My automatic reaction to knowing that I have to let seasons of life happen is to not get caught up and not love at all. God has shown me that not only is that a stupid and selfish way of looking at it, but it also closes me off for more permanent relationships. I have to love and learn if I'm ever going to live.
- I have found I place almost everything into experiences. I want to experience anything and everything. Which is a good thing and a bad thing in a way. It's good because that keeps me curious and ready to try new things. It's bad because I have the tendency to take things I shouldn't (like dating, for an example) and strip them down into only experiences and lose sight of what it really is. A complicated, loving, heartache mess that with God is still worth it all.
- I still have no idea what's going to happen to me after graduation. I don't know what I want to do with my degree, or if I want to even go for what I'm getting it in. I'm not worried, per se, since I know God will show me if I keep my eyes open, and people never stay in what they start in, but all I see in three months time is a big blank nothing. And that's slightly in the terrifying zone of things.
- I haven't danced in a long time. I don't know why. I feel the urge, but I either start and falter out or feel self-conscious and half-dance. I haven't let go in a long time. I suppose some of that is knowing that I use my hands more than others, and my feet hardly move at all. But I want my entire self to feel and I can't create it so I stop if I ever start. I have been watching many things involving dancing, including Dance Academy, an Australian dancing tv show on Netflix, and TwinSauce, which are twin brothers who are having a blast and a half worshiping God with their whole selves. This is the video that got me started on their channel. Both things make me want to dance, and yet I still have something blocking me from just going.
- Another thing I've realized and hate to admit: I care too much about appearances. "How it looks" is something I struggle with all of the time. It is my greatest and longest struggle. It's the hardest when it interferes with interactions with people. It's always in the back of my mind, and translates over to "how I look". Which is one of the reasons why I don't wear makeup on a daily basis. After spending that time looking at myself in the mirror (I avoid mirrors generally) I have spent time trying to cover flaws and enhance good features and in the end it has been all about me. For the rest of that day I find myself being more of....well.....a jerk. I hate it when I get this way, but for some reason one triggers the other. So I avoid it. But caring about appearances still follows me everywhere. (This is one of the reasons why I pursue being around people who help me be silly and a goof. That's when I feel the most like me.)

Jump
Thinking back to the way my social life was pre-college, all I can remember is spurts of trying to be like anyone who would notice me, learning how to dance in a very attention-seeking way, getting ticked off at people, drama, fights, being a third wheel all of the time, trying to explain how things really were but not getting my point across, and accepting people as they were but never knowing who I was.
That changed once I took a leap out of my comfort zone, let go of my security blanket that wasn't necessarily healthy, and got involved in a college group who I only knew one person in, and happened to be meeting at her house. Looking back, that decision changed more in me then what I knew was even available for me to partake in, let alone end up living in.
I meet so many wonderful people when I let go. Granted, not everyone pursues healthy lifestyles, but when I jump on something really out there for me, God always pulls out these random people I can not only look to for growth, but also interact with and know better as the separate human beings they are.
I have changed so much over these past four years of college. Four years ago I was finishing up my first semester of college, and not quite sure how I made it. Still a bit terrified of all of the men on my campus, and not able to look people in the eye, I was still finding myself in a whirlwind of change.
Now, only a year away from graduating, I have transitioned from "not sure how I made it" to "that was rather easy, is college tricking me?" and hoping that once I earn my degree I can establish myself in a company somewhere as a hard worker and worth keeping on and paying enough to survive as an adult in this world. That's the part that terrifies me now, that I wont be able to support myself post-undergrad and I'll have to be at home for ay longer than I would want to be. Which is funny, because that fear is almost the exact opposite of what I went in with to freshman year: terrified of change, hoping for the best, but not sure what that would look like, and hoping to goodness I wouldn't have to shake up my world too much. Now I wish I can make a new chapter as quickly as possible.
With new people, friends, and experiences.
Almost time to jump. :)

Education versus a Job
I have little actual job experience, or so I feel.
I have the ability to quickly learn tools and follow instructions quite well, which enables me to complete school-related tasks quite quickly but also make me bored at the same time.
I gotta wonder if that also translates into having a legit job. Does it matter than I can learn quickly and do what is necessary to get something moving and/or done? Or am I missing something and people are looking for more than I can offer?
I have been familiarizing myself more with job searches, as I graduate in a year, and should know what I have to contribute, but all I am getting is depressed.
I DON'T have minimum 5 years experience in something, anything really. I feel like school is just faking me out and all of these classes amount to not because they're just chopped-up versions of the real world and I don't have what the real world really wants.
I know that if I found a company who thought that I was what they wanted, and I could survive off of what they offered me, I would have no trouble doing my best.
I'm just terrified that I don't have anything to offer.
I was so much more confident about what I have to offer after my internship was over. I know now that I can balance multiple tasks at once, take charge of activities while people are floundering, stay focused, be creative as well as take on monotonous jobs and still do my best.
But I fear that isn't enough for the real world.
I don't have experience. I don't have money to practice on autoCAD, solidworks, etc. in order to take up projects and make experience.
I just need a job so I can move out of my parent's house.
I have a degree in something no one knows about and from what I heard it isn't enough to simply have a bachelors in it. And even though my source was working with military equipment, and I have no desire to get in it, it still haunts me that she had to go to grad school to be wanted.
But I don't have enough drive or concentration to get a grad degree.
I'm going in circles, and I don't know where I stand in this world.
I am a hardworking, quick-learning, move things forward, easy to instruct kind of girl who just wants to contribute and move her life forward.
Why is that such a hard thing to ask of this world?

Idea
Just throwing it out there --
A postulation table.
A postulation table.
- Fully interactive touch screen, slightly lower than a dining table for reach ability and sit-ability.
- Microphones every three feet, with noise canceling capabilities.
- The option to activate or deactivate microphones for flexibility of receiving instruction.
- Different modes of interaction, such as a bubble chart, branch-off ideas, color coding ideas, etc.
This tool could allow brainstorming to take place as a group and receive all the separate ideas coming from all sides for further analysis and use after the postulation from multiple entities took place.
The people brainstorming, after throwing out ideas, could interact with their ideas and mix and match them on the interactive touch table, creating diagrams, mind maps, etc, without having to type or write anything down at all.
Maybe there could be a transfer option to mobile devices for further pursuance?
This of course is a futuristic tool, for I don't believe the microphone capabilities (talk to text) are sensitive enough to take on all different types of speaking from multiple angles at once and still obtain precise information. Also, I am not sure of the ability of the noise-canceling microphones who can grab only the closest speakers words without garbling them or mixing them with someone else's ideas.
None-the-less, I think it could help cut out the time it takes to type or write anything by hand and having to use further tools to mess around with the ideas on a small screen.
Anyways, happy ideas thursday.

Procrastination
So I'm making progress on those assignments.........ok just one, but at least I'm almost done with that one.
I have gotten to the point of procrastinating on homework by putting on makeup and making myself look nice.
This has never happened. I am turning into a real female. This is weird.
And hopefully today my magical hair person (Jenn) will be taking care of this mess and make it into a hairstyle (see below).
Listening to music seems to be the only thing that can get my brain and body moving to accomplish anything I dont want to do. This is good, because now I know what'll get me moving, but also bad, because I don't know how available this option will be for me in a 9-5 job. I have a feeling closing off from the world to get stuff accomplished isn't encouraged in the typical social world. Silly standards.
Woo random blog post.

Time with people
I know I need to get things done, such as a whole chapter for exp. psych, my entire assignment for IET, more work for my GUI assignment, and photoshop work for Jeffery....but all I want to do is be with my people again and just chill.
It's hard to get motivated, I'm such a procrastinator. If I don't force myself to do work, I just wait till it cannot be avoided anymore and I risk turning in work late.
Worst case scenario:
I need to work on, in the order of:
Maybe I can do better at motivating myself in the morning.....
This is the worst post ever. I hope my life gets more exciting once I graduate and have real work to do......right now its just battling motivations to do hmk...thank goodness that it is a rare thing to bring work home in a regular 9-5 job. That is so much harder than getting work done at the place of assignment and turn-in.
Especially when you have to work on a team.....I can organize, do my part, and communicate. Hmk is not necessary.
.................Hurrah.

Energy Transference
I have this theory...
Everyone has a basis of energy.
Its a bit like the rule of "energy can neither be created nor destroyed", but I take it into account that this also occurs within our bodies...sort of like energy transference.
Everyone has their own levels of energy in their bodies. Their metabolism, emotional state, and many more is included in this energy transference.
For example: I've noticed that my skin is broken out less when I am feeling sick....my theory would state that this is because my energies are being put toward fighting off infection, and so don't spill out onto my skin's reaction to things. I don't take better care of my skin when I'm sick, I just don't have the typical energy to spare for my skin to have a problem with me.
There are other occurrences that also affect my skin's level of difficulty, such as when I am exercising or when it is my turn to become an evil female. :P This, I believe also is because of the energies within my body being used in other areas, and so the necessary entities receiving the energy are the only ones doing so.
I have no clue why I wanted to add onto my blog with this post of all things....but I feel as if I've had this theory for a long time and just wanted to get it out there.....just postulating to one person doesn't seem like enough.
Here's to hoping this drive to write lasts!! LP

Staying here
So I guess this has become my mini diary that I put out there in public in order to stop being afraid of what people think.
But that's too long to be a title so I'll keep what I've already got.
Confession -- I feel so left out of life right now.
Being sick has made my life horrible.
It's fall, so so many things are happening -- people are getting married, festivals are happening, people are going places, and fun things in general are going around.
And I can't participate.
I've been sick, and I have schoolwork that I can't just up and forget about.
I'm just miserable. I can't be around people for too long because of my coughing, and I can't afford to go places because of my money limit.
I know my friends haven't forgotten about me, and they want me to come hang out with them...but my life is getting in the way of LIFE.
Being a college student who gets sick every couple months SUCKS.
I've been told that this wont last forever.....yes I know, but I still have TWO YEARS of this left and after that I may not even find a job that make it all worth it.
Can't this world just end already??

Paranoid Self
I have come to see the light about my paranoid side -- it is quite prevalent primarily in my interactions with men.
For example: I find that I consider eating to be a very private and intimate thing. Which I guess is weird, except I cannot help it. It is not something I can reason myself out of. If I'm with a large group of people, I naturally don't eat. It is how it's been for as long as I can remember. I don't know why or when it developed.
So, as a result, whenever some guy asks if I wanna go grab lunch, my brain goes "no, you're nice and all, but I dont like you like THAT!"....and then I can't leave the issue alone. I get obsessive about if he is trying to get too close, or if I'm being paranoid, and I enjoy talking to him but I'm being rude but I don't want to encourage him in that area and I explode internally. Which I guess is imploding.
The fact that its an issue in the first place is a problem. But that I make SUCH an issue about a non-issue is even more of a problem.
I'm just a problem.
And a mess.

Openness
I really don't know how many still read my blog, but I think it's time to say a few things that need to be said.
I am not an openly honest person.
This breaks down into two parts: I am not open, and I am not completely honest.
My lack of openness can be seen in many different ways. First, I am not open in classroom settings. This is portrayed by my lack of speaking up in class as well as saying what I'm really thinking. I do not feel constricted by this fact, but rather have made that my comfort zone. None-the-less, I am still stunting my fully-fledged self. I consider this a good thing because I am overwhelmed by the amount of people who clamor to be heard and known and acknowledged, and I refuse to join them.
Another way I am not open can be coupled with my lack of complete honesty. If you first meet me, I am sure you would not label me as an emotional person. I am in fact such a being. But again, I see everyone who I find overly-dramatic with their emotions showing everyone who can see and hear what they are thinking at the time, and I refuse to join them. Yes, there is a healthy amount of tears, but I unfortunately cannot have just that much. I am all or nothing (or at least have been) and I would rather be nothing than everything. So I bottle it all up. I even have a trick. Apparently I cannot be surprised and cry at the same time. So, if I mimic a surprised facial expression, my tears go back into my tear ducts and I'm home free...until I find another thing worth of emotion and I have to do it all over again. I've gotten to the point where I only have to do this every once in a while, when I'm a hormonal mess and about to explode. Besides that I seem stone-cold. I will try to empathize with my words, but my emotions stay intact, just as I want them to be.
Finally, my lack of complete honesty. I am a mess. True and clear. I have worked on my thinking so much that I don't know what I like. I don't know what I'd do in situations. I don't know what I enjoy the most....or even more than something else. Everything has been so manipulated in my brain...attempting to see every side of an issue or interest or idea...that I do not know what I identify with. I've always wondered if this was just the way things were....as a teenager. I'm now 20 and this hasn't changed. I've done some irreparable damage on my psyche and how I identify myself, and this has been going on for years. I constantly wonder if there is seriously something wrong with myself, but I cannot identify it, because I am so good at adaptation and camouflage. I am SO good at lying to myself and others that I don't know where I stand about myself anymore. I don't even remember the last time I did know who I was. I can give you adjectives that I know you like to hear me say about myself, but that's just a part of my manipulation of my psyche. I know what roles to play and how to play them, and I do what I can with my best ability. But I have no clue where I stand with myself. And I am SURE this plays into my couple problem. I have so many conflicting things involving couples that its a whole other blog issue. Which I'm not comfortable with sharing to the public quite yet.
But this needed to be said. It wasn't enough to write in a diary and left under my bed. I needed to tell the truth.
For Once.
Another thing I am not 100% honest about. I am a vain and needy person. When I bother to do something with my looks I obsess about it for the rest of the day. I cannot imagine getting cancer and my hair falling out. Which means it'll probably happen to me. And I can't get dressed up in silly outfits or costumes because I feel like an idiot and I cannot stand that. So I heave learned how to ignore, manipulate, say no forcefully, charm, and throw a tantrum to keep myself from looking like a dressed-up idiot. This is why Halloween was done for me by the time I was 12. I do not understand why people get dressed up for Halloween, wear eye-catching colors in makeup, or wear anything out of the ordinary for conventions etc. I don't judge them, and enjoy them and their enthusiasm, but I will never be able to join in and understand them.
As for the needy, I always want and almost NEED confirmation. I need confirmation that I am engaging, funny, attractive, informative, that I can impact others, and anything else you can think of. I tell you I don't, because I do and I SHOULDN'T. But I really really really do. Whenever I communicate something to someone....anything, anything at all....I am waiting on pins and needles for their response. Because I want a confirmation. I want input. I want to know what I am to you.
Again, I am a mess.
Lauren

Enthusiasm
I don't know when the last time was that I was truly enthusiastic about something. Besides discussing a book. I really can't remember.
I've had a lot of: "oh that sounds like it should be exciting" moments, where I bring myself to have a passable enthusiasm.....but being enthusiastic about something on my own hasn't happened in quite a long time.
I'm just blah. Or depressed. Or maybe sometimes things will make me smile, and appreciate them. But not be enthusiastic.
I don't know if this is a part of my personality, or if it is a phase or season. I don't know.
The only form of "excitement" I may have is seeing people I've missed. Besides that, there really is nothing exciting out there for me.
I was excited for a bit about my idea for getting a masters in Early-childhood Development, which would couple with my Engineering Psych degree to help me develop software/ programs that would help kids learn at their critical stages.
Cause I prefer being with children over any age.
Everything is exciting for them. Their enthusiasm for something new is intoxicating. And I'm interesting by just being older than them. Which is pretty fun :)
I'm not cut out for a lot of things. I do my best, especially when it's my job. But my oomph is non-exsistent.
I don't know if I ever had it, or if I lost it along the way.
My friends get excited and involved and enthusiastic about so many things. And I'm just here.
One more time.

TEXTBOOKS
I know I haven't written in quite a while, but i just had my first majorly-expensive textbook encounter and I'm still a bit stickershocked.
I'm hoping my parents can cover it, but IDK. To me $110 for a textbook ill be using for ONE CLASS seems excessive and overpriced, but to them they may think I'll be just fine.
I HATE SCHOOL.
STILL.
Yay ranting in public. I'm just so much fun aren't I?

New toys
So I finally got my iPod touch this past Christmas and I'm LOVING it.
Being able to use it for practically anything has been lots of fun.
Buying free apps have been fun too :-)

The Update Purge
So tomorrow is thanksgiving, and I shall be celebrating it with my family, Will (boyfriend of 2 months....kinda unsettling), and Chris, who came down from Covenant for the break.
As for the Will thing, I'm feelin pretty attached...but at the same time I'm happy to be only dating, and not in the process of engagement etc. I'm not ready for that life-change yet. I like where I am :)
I really really really want school to be over however....I'm DONE with this semester. Hopefully this semester will turn out ok....but I'm feeling more Bs than As this semester (usually I have all As, and sometimes a B and/or a C....).
Thanksgiving will be interesting. Will's G-pa passed this past Tuesday. So his mom and sis are out in AZ....I hope he will be able to enjoy this week without too much worry.
The car situation for Will is looking good. The car Daniel has seems to be in working order...but at a bare minimum....BUT ITS A FREE CAR!
It's weird being attached to someone else (apparently I want to talk about Will today). I feel normal when I haven't talked to him....texting quite a few times, but not talking or seeing each other for a couple days in a row....I feel fine...and then he called me today and I got a heart-wrenching "missing you" feeling...so weird....good...mushy...but a good sign. I think.
Merging two people together slowly...no wonder you need to be careful about your intimacy levels....as well as stay true and move forward...cause when it's healthy....its really a new and exciting experience....
Ok I'm done boring you to death.

Improv./ Adaptation
I love Improv.
It is one of my less God-focused favorites of this world.
I don't consider God someone who needs improv, since he already knows whats going on, and he's the one who puts everything into motion.
Improv, to me, is when you take things as they come, and make it clever. It ALWAYS makes me smile.
Though clever things in general make me smile. :)
Adaptation is also clever....but it seems more as a useful thing then improv.....but they are pretty much alike.
I dont know why I decided to write this, it just felt like the right time to write.
School starts again in two days. I hope things will go well.
Sometimes I wonder what it would've been like to live on a nice campus instead of stay at home and go to SPSU.
But it's in motion, and unless God chooses to show me opportunity, I'm going to believe I need to be at SPSU.
Just hearing about my friends moving into their new spaces makes me feel sorta "left out"...I guess thats what that is...
But I love living at home. I think I'd miss my mom mostly.
As usual, I'm such a sporadic writer.
Rabbit Trails.
I dont know what I want.
I'm just reacting. Not acting.
But I'm not an active person. So I guess that's to be expected.
How come I know all of these lyrics (about 680 songs) and yet I cannot remember simple facts that are required in classes?
The mind is amazing, yet so frustrating sometimes....
I wonder what this Orientation to psych will be like.
Sporadic.
Is that even a word?
Yes. Yes it is.

Fall 2010
I know it's only July.....and I know that I don't have to start classes till the end of August....but what else can you expect when I have to look for textbooks? I will eventually start thinking about the upcoming school semester!
So these are my main things:
1. There's a really creepy guy who I thought I had shaken off my first semester at school, and he recognized me when i had to go to the psych department to get "advised" so I could register for my new classes. He severely creeps me out. I REALLY don't want to run into him this upcoming semester....I might have a breakdown. I get nervous just thinking about what might happen if we end up in some classes (or even just one) together...
2. I know that my first semester, there was a grace period for the parking stickers and such, but idk if that doesnt apply anymore, now that we have a full parking deck....so im a little worried about that....
3. of course, a little worried about my ACTUAL classes, since i know im horrible in bio, and i have to take it.....its going to be interesting....
but i think that's it.....those are my major deals....of course im going to have new guys "attaching" themselves to me, but that's because im a girl in a tech school :) lol I dont mind that much, except for the awkwardness if they are too forward, and the fact that that is how the whole creepy guy thing came into play.....*shudder*
So yeah, this is what's on my mind, besides thinking of time managing, driving every day (except for FRIDAY!!!), and being able to talk to Bethany at the school.
Bah, school. I want to stop thinking about it till the VERY LAST MINUTE....but i dont think that's going to happen.....
oh well.....
PEACE

Writing on everything
You know those kids that drive you nuts, and once they get into the writing materials, all hell breaks loose? They write on the couch, the table, the walls; anything they can get their little hands on.
Well I'm one of those kids. I LOVE to write on surfaces that aren't originally intended to be written on.
But I have this little thing called discernment which keeps me from being a total terror and writing on something that shouldn't...and it being permanent.
My latest and greatest wish is to be able to write on my long-length mirror and use it for notes. The problem is that I don't have any nice writing materials that will allow me to do so and the result to not be permanent words on my face.
So my newest quest is to find something that will nicely go on and nicely come off of a mirrored surface. :)
Thanks for randomly reading!

Holding Hands
I've always kind of been adverse to holding hands.
I don't know why it creeps me out, but it does.
It might have to do with a point in my life that I don't care to think about in which everything was confusing, and he tried to hold my hand....or something. I'm not really sure what really went on....I just know I get a creepy feeling when I think about hand-holding.
I had a sudden urge to write about it (since I can't seem to get much farther on my paper) and so, of course, I did.
...Is it further or farther?
I'm sort of out of it today, I still haven't taken a shower, I have this paper that will be due on Tuesday, and I'm pretty sad that I can't go outside and just enjoy the weather.
No fun.
I'm so confused.
My head's all in a muddle.
Oh, and my mom is sick so I am trying not to overwhelm her by bringing my problems to her and talking ti out like I usually do.
I've had time to work on this paper, and I have...but I never tried to write things out like I should have and I didn't do much book research like I should have as well....
AND I FEEL REALLY HOT!
Darn this weather....its so pretty....but I get overheated so easily!
Over and Out.

Oh the Years Ago...
I write so darn much.
I've been going through my old files that I've kept for years, and it just makes me grin at how much I've written through the many seasons of my life.
I have so many different files containing things I've saved, things I've written, and things I considered my secrets.
For example:
Real Words: Philanthropic, Catastrophic, Foreclosure,
My Words: Elixemmy, Jellantrillix, Partholemue, Calitillue, Helpipiphany, Tellimongrel, Crilliematrix, Hellipitifany, Trilliemalligma, Jillimontriall, Fortunapitrilliecalmali,

This I made in 2007 when I was almost 16. Even then I had words floating through my head with no meaning to them what-so-ever.
And then there is Fred:
And putting Fred on here made my formatting go all weird, so be grateful that you got to see Fred.
